![]() ![]() Later edit: After posting the above I saw the other reply about the sewer skewer. ![]() That reminds me that I better look at mine when I make my move out of the house this afternoon. This was a cheap alternative compared to replacing the original plumbing. Maybe this would not be possible with your plumbing but has worked well for me for several years. I watch for this and just kick it over before it gets too tall. In the winter, it is quite common for moisture to drip out of the PVC pipe and make an inverted ice-cycle that will eventually plug the elbow. It has a 90 degree elbow on the end (outside of the house ) pointing down. This vent leads straight out to the side of the house. He literally cut in a tee in the vent line and made another vent out of PVC pipe. He said he wouldn't dare do this in town but would probably be all right out on the farm. Here's a solution that my plumber came up with. I'm not sure why it was run this way but it does freeze under certain weather conditions with the backup of sewer gas. Due to the layout of the house the vent runs up and then sideways and finally back up to exit through the roof. It has the cast iron sewer pipe and vent system. I live in the old farm house that my Dad built some 60+ years ago. Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn. ![]() Something like this will solve 90% of your problem.
